Revd Canon Francis Umezuruike Passes on, Slated for Burial August 28 2026
A death has been announced of Late Revd Canon Francis Ihejieto Umezuruike (rtd) of the Anglican Diocese of Owerri.
The renowned cleric died while singing praises to God after Doctors earlier confirmed he had no known ailment.
The late Canon’s son, Revd(Dr) Prophet Mezu Umezu of the Word of Life Ministry in Abuja confirmed the development to newsmen.
Prophet Umezu while speaking on the death of his Father said late Revd Canon Francis Ihejieto Umezuruike started his journey of priesthood at the age of 13. This journey took him to Port Harcourt where a Bishop from Germany took interest in him and received him into the Anglican Church.
He was made a church leader and subsequently became a Catechist. When war broke out, he rode on a bicycle from Abonema to Owerri. He was at that time deployed to a particular village in Owerri West where he served a certain Reverend Canon.
He then proceeded to Awka college and subsequently to Umuahia.
He was eventually made a full priest in 1978 and served in several stations and became a parish priest in 1993.
He was promoted to Canon between 1998 and 1999 and eventually retired in 2006 without promotion just as many current Bishops now serving were his juniors.
Revd Canon Francis Ihejieto Umezuruike lived a life serving God.
Until his death, the highly respected Reverend has no verifiable sickness as his son, Revd (Dr) Prophet Mezu Umezu, who is the Presiding Pastor of the Word of Life Ministry in Abuja told journalists that he personally took him to the hospital but Doctors confirmed no ailment and subsequently recommended just water.
According to his son, on May 10, 2026, the late Canon was singing praises to God when he passed on to glory.
Revd Canon Francis Ihejieto Umezuruike 86, would be remembered for his dedication to serve God and humanity.
The service of songs has already been held both in Abuja and Owerri respectively.
In the words of his son, ” the development is a celebration of Life for my father” and called on well-wishers to join the family in the funeral service.
According to the family, the late Canon Umezuruike’s body leaves Aladinma Mortuary to his compound on the 28th of August, 2026 for a brief ceremony and then proceed to St Philips Anglican Church, Ohii, Owerri West LGA of Imo State and would be interred after the final prayers.
