Election 2023: Group urges Youth to vote with Unbiased Conscience
(Business Africa Digest)The Society for Youth and the Downtrodden(SOYD) has called on youths across the country to approach the next months general elections with independent decision and unbiased conscience.
President and Chief Executive Officer of SOYD, Comrade Gabriel O. Ogwuche disclosed this in a statement made available to Business Africa Digest in Abuja.
Comrade Ogwuche said the call has become necessary in order to avoid mistake of the past when leaders have polluted the minds of the youth with bias and religious sentiments.
“As a group, we wish to call on young people to approach the forth coming election with independent decision and unbiased conscience that is completely devoid of religious sentiments and acrimony as such mistake will worsen the problem of the country”, he said.
He noted that presently , there is nothing really different and unusual that is worth stressing and putting lives at risk before, during and after the election has been our culture and tradition.
He stressed that the beauty of an election is dependent on the ability of the political parties to field the right people as candidates that align with the expectation of the masses, but regretted that signs are already showing the reverse in the case in the forth coming presidential election in Nigeria.
The youth group observed that while most political parties fielded candidates with questionable characters without the capacity to transform Nigeria, the electoral umpire had shown clearly in many instances that it lacked the courage and ability to organise proper election this year.
The group further emphasize that the action of the political parties are threatening our democracy and have already created confusions among many Nigerians.
“The situation whereby the political parties deliberately fielded candidates whose background are characterised by rebellion, corruption, inefficiency/gross underutilisation of political wisdom and machineries of government is worrisome and totally condemnable”, the statement said.
It noted that whilst advocating for free, fair and credible 2023 general election in Nigeria, they urge the people, especially the religious leaders to pray for the unity of the masses as it remains one of the fastest means to make the government accountable to the people.
