INEC suspends Adamawa REC indefinitely
Disturbed by the nauseating attitude towards the conduct of the Adamawa supplementary polls, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has suspended its Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Adamawa state, Barrister Hudu Yunusa-Ari from office following his illegal declaration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Aisha Dahiru better known as Aisha Binani as Governor-elect in last weekend’s rerun polls.
The REC has been directed to stay away from the office of the commission in Yola, Adamawa state as a direct consequence to his illegal action weekend which has embarrassed the Commission.
In the INEC letter dated Monday, April 17, 2023 and signed by its Secretary, Mrs. Rose Oriaran-Anthony, the commission has directed its Administrative Secretary in the state to take charge of its affairs in the troubled Adamawa state.
The Commission’s letter reads; “I hereby convey the Commission’s decision that you (Barr. Hudu Yunusa Ari), Resident Electoral Commissioner, Adamawa State should stay away from the Commission’s office in Adamawa State immediately until further notice.
The Administrative Secretary has been directed to take full charge of INEC, Adamawa State with immediate effect”.
There have been calls for the arrest and prosecution of the Adamawa REC for his “attempted Coup d’etat” on Sunday when he in the company of Policemen illegally made a declaration that the candidate of APC won the Adamawa Governorship Election even when all the results of the Supplementary election have not been Collated.
