The visit is a bold in the partnership between FSD Africa and the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) to enhance the sector’s capabilities and sustainability.

The collaboration is designed to help implement the Risk Based Capital (RBC) training program, towards raising the expertise of seventy (70) NAICOM staff members.
The two-week was conducted by program by Mr. Elias Omondi, the Principal in charge of innovation at FSD Africa.

The RBC framework is a transformative drive to insurance regulation, whereby capital requirements are aligned with the risk profiles of insurance companies. By providing specialized training in this area, FSD Africa sought to equip NAICOM staff with the necessary skills to implement and regulate risk-based capital practices effectively. This initiative is expected to enhance the overall stability and resilience of the Nigerian insurance market, benefiting both insurers and policyholders.

Development of Risk Based Capital Framework and Toolkit: FSD Africa, in collaboration with NAICOM, undertook the development of a comprehensive Risk Based Capital framework and toolkit. This framework would serve as a guiding document for insurers, enabling them to assess and manage their risks efficiently while meeting regulatory requirements.

Incorporation of Economic, Social, and Governance (ESG) Principles: In line with global trends, the partnership focused on integrating Economic, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into the insurance industry’s operations. This move aligns with sustainable and responsible practices, fostering social and environmental considerations alongside financial goals.

Facilitating Innovation: A noteworthy outcome of the partnership was the creation of an Innovation Portrait. This innovative tool aimed to foster a culture of innovation among regulators and insurance operators alike. By encouraging novel approaches and creative solutions, the Nigerian insurance sector can adapt to changing market dynamics and cater to evolving consumer needs effectively.

The FSD Africa and NAICOM partnership serves as a beacon of progress in the Nigerian insurance landscape. By investing in specialized training, developing comprehensive frameworks, and promoting innovation, the collaboration seeks to elevate the insurance industry to new heights of efficiency and sustainability.
