Hardship: Tinubu orders release of 102,000 metric tons of grain
President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate release of more than 102,000 metric tons of assorted food items from the strategic reserve and the Rice Millers Association of Nigeria.
The measure is seen as a short-term response to the rising food crisis in the country.
Alhaji Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, announced the move on Thursday during a press briefing at the State House following a meeting of the Special Presidential Committee on Emergency Food Intervention.
Alhaji Idris also said the government has proposed to embark on the import of “whatever shortfalls” that may be experienced after the release of the food commodities.
He warned that the government will mete out “appropriate measures” on food hoarders, saying emergencies require urgent action in order to ensure food security in Nigeria.frcnnetwork
