This comes as the human rights group reacted to a directive issued to Police to suppress Nigerians from holding a peaceful protest. In a statement dated 9th October, 2020, the Executive Director of the group, Comrade Ismail Ibrahim, said: “our organization is being informed of your directives through the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, which was widely spread on social media stating that your command is set to clampdown on any person or group of persons who might be planning any form of protest in Oyo State.

It continued, “Sir, we like to inform you that we have sent letter to the Inspector General of Police, which is aimed at cautioning him in a letter dated 7th October, 2020. “we are using this medium to advise that you should act within the armbit of constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Police Act.

“Furthermore we will like to let you know that Nigerians have the right to freedom of movement, peaceful assembly and association which should not be infringed.

Nigerians particularly the youth are demanding for the scrapping the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), the demands started from the social media but soon degenerate to youth occupying the streets to press home their demands.
