The statement from the Oil and Gas Polytechnic which was made available to Business Africa Digest in Abuja said the crucial infrastructure development is the only access road from Port Harcourt to Bonny Island and has been a long-standing project.

In a recent interview with newsmen in his office, Dr. Okolobah expressed optimism that the completion and commissioning of the road would have a profound impact on the island and the polytechnic.

“When the road is completed, it will no doubt open the island to the outside world, ease the pain of water transportation, and also impact positively on the Polytechnic’s growth,” he said.

Dr. Okolobah praised the resilience of the Federal Government, led by President Tinubu, for prioritizing this critical project, adding that the road’s completion would bring numerous benefits to the institution and the community.

The Rector also highlighted the significant increase in student enrollment since his tenure began.

“The student population has risen from around 200 to presently around 1,000, and more are expected with the accreditation of 14 new courses recently,” he said.

He attributed this growth to the institution’s unique mandate as the only specialized polytechnic in Nigeria and Africa for oil and gas.

Dr. Okolobah emphasized that the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, offers a conducive learning environment, modern infrastructure, and experienced resource persons.
On admission requirements, the Rector revealed that the institution has not begun post-UTME tests yet, saying that a minimum of 100 JAMB score and 5 O’level credits in not more than two sittings are sufficient for admission consideration.

Dr. Okolobah used the opportunity to invite the private sector, individuals, and government agencies to partner with the polytechnic.

“We need partnerships to fulfill our mandate of training manpower for the oil and gas industry,” he said, expressing optimism that collaborations would enhance the institution’s growth and impact.
