Senatorial aspirant Olofu bemoans acute poverty in Benue South, vows to reverse trend.
The Immediate past Technical Adviser to the Nigeria Governors’ forum, and two-time Finance and Economic Development Commissioner in Benue State Dr David Olofu has bemoaned the acute poverty in Benue South Senatorial district and vowed to reverse the trend if elected senator in 2027.
The senatorial hopeful spoke to newsmen in Abuja on his ambition to ascend the senatorial seat at the National Assembly, regretting that the level of poverty and lack of meaningful development in the region was unacceptable.
The technocrat said he was not satisfied with the level of development in Benue South, even in the whole country and called for a change of narratives for the benefit of citizens of the region.
“I am not satisfied with what is delivered now in Benue South Senatorial district. And I’m not satisfied with what is being delivered now in the whole of this country in terms of what we can achieve as a people”.
“Because what we are asking for is not rocket science. What we are asking for are the basics of life. And that is why development partners don’t consider issues like
construction of road as an
indicator of measurement of
development”.
According to him, “It’s the lowest, you don’t need any effort. Once you have the money you should be able to do so. They don’t consider it as an indicator so it’s left for the people to decide on that matter”.
He observed that there were a lot of challenges in Benue
South Senatorial district, stressing that they can be tackled with the right initiatives.
“I have observed within this period that those of us from Benue State have challenges. These challenges are not beyond what we can surmount. And I believe that in terms of training, in terms of experience, in terms of
exposure, in terms of network, terms of goodwill, I will be able to provide the coordination required for us to overcome these challenges”.
He noted that it was time to stop the lamentation in Benue South and declared that going forward this is what we need to be doing differently. That is why I’m offering myself for that service” he said.
