Bandits’ Claims of Seizing MRAPs in Zamfara Untrue- DHQ
Nigeria’s Military High Command has refuted claims that bandits seized two Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles (MRAPs) from troops during operations in Zamfara State.
In a statement by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba on Monday, the MRAPs were demobilized due to the inability of troops to remove them from swampy environment.
General Buba explained that the vehicles got bogged down during a fighting patrol in Zurmi local government area on August 29, due to the swampy terrain occasioned by persistent rain.
He described the bandits’ claim as an attempt to mislead the public, adding that the demobilization of the MRAPs was to prevent them from being useful to the terrorists.
The Defence Headquarters also dismissed a viral video claiming to show the mass killing of civilians in Sokoto State, stating that the incident never occurred in Nigeria but in a nearby African country faced with terrorism.
He urged the public to be cautious of the antics of terrorists to propagate misinformation and fake news as part of their war propaganda agenda.
