Defence Minister Musa Refutes Alleged Resignation report
Nigeria’s Defence Ministry has dismissed as false and misleading reports circulating on social media claiming that the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), plans to resign from office.
In a public disclaimer issued on Monday, June 20, 2026, the ministry described the claims as a complete fabrication intended to mislead the public, stressed that the rumours did not originate from the minister’s office and should be disregarded.
According to the statement, General Musa remains fully committed to his constitutional responsibilities and continues to focus on advancing Nigeria’s national security objectives.
The ministry noted that he is dedicated to implementing the country’s defence strategy, with positive results already being recorded.
The ministry urged members of the public, media organisations and social media users to refrain from spreading unverified information capable of causing unnecessary confusion and misinformation.
The statement, signed by the Special Assistant (Media) to the Minister of Defence, Leah Katung Babatunde, advised anyone seeking clarification on official matters concerning the minister to contact the appropriate office rather than rely on unverified online reports.
