UniAbuja stinks with Fraud and Illegality over Appointments and Transfers
There is a growing discontent among the University of Abuja community, notably the academic staff as illegal and unwarranted transfers have allegedly taken over the sphere of the academic community.
Business Africa Digest has unearthed a year-long fraud on illegal transfer of appointments from other universities to university of Abuja.
Checks conducted by this Online newspaper indicates that Faculties are not only flooded with academic mediocre, but are also transferred without recourse to the Registrar of the university.
Investigations also revealed that those transferred are neither interviewed nor are brought in based on the needs of the departments.

The latest painstaking findings by our correspondent showed an advertisement for two new masters degree programmes, M.A Hermeneutics/Logics and Generative Phonology, and Clinical Literary Studies and Ecocritical Studies put up by the Head of Department (HOD), Professor Razinat T. Mohammed.
The advertisement requests prospective candidates including Graduate Assistants, Master’s holders, and PhD holders to apply.
Business Africa Digest confirmed that the programmes are nonexistent in the Department of English, University of Abuja.
More worrisome to our reporter is the idea that graduate assistants and master’s degree holders are now deemed specialities in the Department of English, University of Abuja.
Nearly 200 applications are said to have been received for courses that have no curriculum and have never been presented for discussion at the Departmental level for approval for onward movement to the University Senate to make them legally introduced in the Department, as protocol and due process demand.
Sources close to this online newspaper said that money is already exchanging hands for the interview scheduled for the second week of February, 2024.
A senior academic staff who confided in our correspondent on grounds of anonymity, said” The impunity is too much. Can you imagine just yesterday, 12 different applications either for employment or transfer were privately and allegedly forwarded to the office of the Vice Chancellor from a faculty alone.
The staff noted that the qualification for such positions are either tribal or religious to be employed by the Vice Chancellor.
Meanwhile, Business Africa Digest learnt on good sources that the impunity is being sustained due to the absence of the University Governing Board which had since been dissolved by the Federal Government, adding that the Vice Chancellor hides under the absence of the governing council to undermine the university Act.
Another disturbing scenario discovered by this reporter is that the tenure of the current Vice Chancellor ends by June, 2024 and the position
is yet to be advertised contrary to the provisions of the Act establishing the university.
When contacted on the development especially on the advertisment calling for lecturers for employment at the Department of English, the Registrar of the University, Mr Yahaya Mohammed disclaimed the advertorial and told our reporter to disregard it saying that a disclaimer would soon be issued by the University and that a more descent procedure would soon be adopted.
