Tinubu Urged to Intervene to stop further destabilization of Project Managers’ Institute
The Founding President of the Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria (CIPMN) Mrs Victoria Okoronkwo, has made a passionate appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to as a matter of urgency, call the officials of Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment (FMITI), and stop them from further distabilization of the Institute.
Okoronkwo in a chat with a cross section of the media in Abuja at the weekend, regretted that the sole efforts she made over the past 15 years that led to the establishment of CIPMN are being frustrated by some disgruntled elements of the institute with active support and connivance of the officials of FMITI.
Going down memory lane, Okoronkwo noted that she single handedly, promoted the formation of the institute by committing her energy, time and resources until the bill establishing CIPMN was passed into law by the National Assembly in 2017 and the eventual accent of the bill into law by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to her, she midwifed CIPMN over a 15-year period, during which she single handedly funded processes that culminated in the passage of the bill setting up the institute.
“Between 2004 and 2007, I registered the Institute of Project Managers Ltd/Gte with three Trustees namely, Arc Godwin Okoronkwo, Elechi Ojukwu and my humble self.
“Between 2013 and 2017, I championed the submission of a draft Bill for the establishment of the CIPMN to the National Assembly which was eventually passed into law.
“In January, 2018, former President Muhammadu Buhari accented to the Bill, thus giving birth to the Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria (CIPMN).
The CIPMN President regretted that no sooner than the institute came into being that strange elements who were not part of the struggle for the establishment of the institute came in to hijack CIPMN for their selfish motives.
According to her, these “elements are backed by officials of FMITI who brag that they now have the Institute in their pockets and that nothing would change the situation”
She further expressed strong dismay that the ministry’s officials would conspire to relocate the secretariat of CIPMN from Gudu, to the FMITI at the old Federal Secretariat, Area One, Abuja.
According to her, the FMITI officials and the disgruntled elements of the institute have since been using the name of CIPMN to siphon funds belonging to the federal government in the name of funding the institute.
Okoronkwo therefore, pleaded with President Tinubu to as a matter of urgency look in the circumstances that led to the action of the officials of FMITI and call them to order.
